Graceful Transition from Summer to Autumn

To remove accumulated summer heat (Pitta), omit the mustard seeds and hing and add more cilantro to the recipe above. Add sweet potatoes because they are a root vegetable that helps ground and prepare us for Vata season this Fall. Its sweetness also cools Pitta. You can also use soaked green mung beans as a substitute.

Ayurveda suggests that we always cleanse the dosha of the previous system from our tissues to prepare for the new season, making us fresh and clean. Do a monofast of Kitchadi for 1-3 days at the end of September. If you are experiencing inflammation right now, which is common at this time of year after all the accumulated summer heat, drink aloe vera gel or juice twice per day, 1/4 cup. Buy it in a glass jar to avoid exposure to BPA from plastic.

Aloe Vera is also great for relieving menopausal symptoms, purifying the liver, and boosting your Shakti glow. Add some organic pomegranate juice to enhance the flavor if you prefer. Pomegranates are a natural source of anti-histamines and anti-inflammatories. Credit to my teacher, Dr. Vasant Lad of The Ayurvedic Institute.
